Development of advanced maritime equipment and ICT convergence technology KRISO will serve as a leader of the fourth industrial revolution by establishing a superintelligent, hyperconnected maritime environment.

KRISO will lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution by developing smart maritime equipment and robot technology and ICT-based digital convergence technologies

The Fourth Industrial Revolution will accelerate on the basis of super-intelligence and hyper-connection between reality and virtual world, and sustainable maritime development will be realized on the basis of the digital maritime technology innovation. It will develop essential technology for maritime equipment and smart robots, and establish a superintelligent, hyperconnected maritime environment using ICT, thereby preparing the maritime industry for the fourth industrial revolution.

01 Development of smart maritime equipment and robot technology

Research Content Development of smart maritime equipment and robot technology to carry out various special missions

One of the goals of developing smart maritime equipment and ICT convergence technology is to produce smart maritime survey robots. KRISO plans to develop underwater-to-surface maritime robots for ocean monitoring, and a commercial underwater robot platform for use in polar environments. Using artificial intelligence, it will develop natural/artificial object detection and mapping technology, and apply it to maritime robots to secure quality survey data.

02 Development of smart maritime communications and ocean survey equipment

Research Content Development of sensing and communication technology for realizing maritime IoT environment (underwater or port)

With the growing need for ocean monitoring and observation, KRISO will develop novel technology for underwater target detection and sonar imaging, thereby providing reliable maritime information for the public. Through the development of environment-aware underwater communications and smart port IoT technology, it will drive developments in maritime science and related industries. Port security will also be improved with the development of X-ray screening for cargo containers.

03 Development of smart maritime equipment operating technology based on cyberphysical system

Research Content ICT convergence technology-based development of cyberphysical operating system (CPOS) and Digital Twin simulation analysis technology

Smart maritime robot operating technology will be developed based on a cyberphysical system, which connects the real world and the virtual world for safer, more efficient control of maritime robots. Digital twin technology will be developed to improve the efficiency of oscillating water column systems, and virtual maritime transportation and analytics will be enhanced for safer maritime transportation and efficient management.
