- Abstract
- In this international collaborated study between MOERI(Maritime and Ocean Engineering Research Institute) and NRC-IOT(National Research Council-Institute for Ocean Technology), a new brash ice test methodology were introduced. The ice model tests were carried out at IOT's ice model basin that has a useable ice area of 76m long and 12m wide a depth of 3m. The target FSICR(Finland Swedish Ice Class Rule) class is 1A whose target thickness of the brash ice is 46mm in model scale. Model tests of a 1:21.8 scaled model of CCG icebreaker Terry-Fox in brash ice channel were carried out. New methodology to produce a brash ice was proposed. The results showed that it would be important to use multi-layer rather than single layer possibly because of significant thrust deduction from the propeller-ice interaction in the present ice conditions.
