- Abstract
- Estimation of ship's resistance in ice-covered sea has been a very interesting topic to shipbuilders. Ice resistance is related to propulsion of a ship and it determines the engine power of the ship. Generally, ice resistance problems are related to ice conditions and ship dimensions, such as ice thickness, ice flexural strength, ship's type, engine power and propeller size. In former study, One of the widely-used ice resistance prediction methods, introduced by Spencer(1992) of Canada, is reviewed(Jeong and Choi, 2009). MOERI ice model basin supported by Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy was completed end of September 2009. In this paper, we conduct ice model test of MOERI standard Icebreaker model and non-dimensional coefficients in ice resistance prediction formula are obtained using the model-scale test in MOERI ice model basin. The ice resistance prediction for MOERI standard icebreaker model is discussed. Copyright ? 2010 by The International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).
