- Abstract
- The Maritime and Ocean Engineering Research Institute (MOERI) ice model basin was completed in August 2009 and many experiments in the cold room were conducted to prepare a proper model ice which shows correct similitude with natural sea ice. The MOERI ice tank was about to adapt the EG/AD/S model ice of Institute for Ocean Technology (IOT) in the first stage because it may provide for the best correct scaling of mechanical properties of columnar sea ice. However, it was reported that the sugar component of the EG/AD/S solutions may cause a difficult maintenance problem due to organic bacteria. Finally, the EG/AD model ice was chosen for MOERI ice tank. In this paper, some experiments to make EG/AD model ice in a cold room are described because of a little bit different methodology with EG/AD/S model ice. Also, we presented the mixing procedure of EG and AD components in MOERI ice tank. The results show that EG/AD model ice can be applied in ice tank because its mechanical properties are similar with the properties of EG/AD/S model ice.
