- Abstract
- Axiomatic design is adopted for conceptual evaluation of design of Deepsea Manganese Nodule Miner (DSNM). Interactions between functional requirements and design variables for DSNM are analyzed hierarchically. Design of DSNM is treated as a composition of various kinds of levels of Functional Requirements (FRs) and Design Parameters (DPs). Design matrices showing the dependence and/or independence between FRs and DPs are formed and analyzed for all levels. The results show that the design of DSNM is not a coupled one, but a decoupled. Finally, it is conceptually verified that DSNM is a good design satisfying the independence axiom of the axiomatic design.
