- Abstract
- This paper presents the procedure to produce the brash ice channel and the preliminary results of ship resistance and propulsion performance of the Terry-Fox in brash ice. Model tests of a 1:21.8 scaled model of CCG Icebreaker Terry-Fox in brash ice were carried out at the Institute for Ocean Technology's (NRC-IOT) ice tank. A total of four ice sheets were used: one for resistance tests, and three for towed propulsion tests. The results showed that it would be important to model the brash ice channel using multiple layers rather than a single layer due possibly to a significant influence of the number of layers on thrust reduction in the targeted ice condition (FSICR 1A). This difference in thrust reduction could be attributed to different degree of propeller-ice interaction associated with different brash ice configurations. Copyright?
