Abstract
The ice field tests of the Korean icebreaking research vessel ARAON were conducted in the Arctic in July-August 2010. During this period, sea ice thickness, temperature, weight, density, salinity and crystal structures were measured by ice drilling. Snow depth and freeboard were measured by ice thickness gauge at intervals of 10m or 20m in sea ice test polygons. Compressive strength of ice was measured by universal test machine and flexural strength of ice was calculated by salinity, temperature and density. Ship speed and power of the main power plant were also measured in the process of conducting the tests onboard the ship. In this paper, the four ice field test results of the Korean icebreaking research vessel were analyzed based on the measured engine power and ship speed for time history and compared systematically.
