- Abstract
- Bow hull-form of a mega container ship was modified to reduce the added resistance in waves. Its effect was investigated through the model test in calm water and regular head waves. The model test results showed that EHP of the modified hullform in calm water was only increased by 0.4 % compared to that of the original hull form. The added resistance was reduced by 19 % in the short wavelength range of λl/LPP=0.2-0. 7 where the wave energy is concentrated for large ships. For irregular waves of sea state 5, the modified hull-form showed 2.9% reduction in EHP.
