- Abstract
- The standards related to the winterization performance of ship equipment operating in the North Sea were recently strengthened by ship owners and shipping companies. In addition, core technologies from basic designs, such as materials and painting methods of the equipment, to the certification of winterization testing are needed by equipment companies and classification organizations. Currently, instead of following standards, a shipbuilder and an equipment company discuss a procedure for the winterization test, focusing on air temperature and wind speed, and then subsequently install the tested equipment if the winterization test is satisfied. However, some vessels operating in cold climates used to meet the icing of equipment and be in trouble. Therefore, some organized winterization test methods according to freezing sources, and the location of the equipment at deck, but also operation techniques related to the equipment priority and operation environments for saving energy must be developed. In this study, some organized winterization test methods, as well as efficient operation techniques for ship equipment, are proposed.
