dc.description.abstractThe modulus of elasticity for model ice in ice breaking model test is a major mechanical property, which represents the behavior of ice in the elastic zone when a ship contacts ice sheet, but also must satisfy the similitude law of ice model test with the flexural strength of model ice. The elastic modulus measurement device was developed at KRISO ice model basin few years ago, and it can precisely measure deflection of the ice sheet by putting a small vertical load. However, there are many problems with the excessive weight of the device and the low repeatability of the measurement technique. In this study, the weight of the device has been reduced by about 30% as well as the frictional force of loading parts was minimized. In addition, the measurement accuracy was improved by using quantification of small loads. It is expected that the reliability of the model test at KRISO ice tank can be improved.-
