dc.description.abstract | In spite of the efforts for maritime safety and reduction of shipboard injuries and illness, the reduction of shipboard injuries is still insignificant and frequencies are even higher than neighboring countries. The shipboard illnesses are mostly caused by the heavy physical and mental stress coming from staying on the sea for long time. The social cost that comes from the loss of human resource from shipboard injuries and illness appear not negligible. Korean society has turned into the aging society and young people are increasingly avoiding tough jobs and thus average age of maritime workers are rapidly increasing. Domestic studies on prevention of shipboard injuries and on maritime safety are strictly limited in particular shipping companies so that are not providing sufficient data and none of the studies has been used human engineering approach for work environments and methodologies. This study analyzes the actual status of the shipboard injuries and illness in domestic and foreign cases then provides a technical classification and plans to obtain element technologies, and also discusses the future direction of related researches.are mostly caused by the heavy physical and mental stress coming from staying on the sea for long time.
