- Abstract
- This paper presents the results of research on the seakeeping and maneuvering performance for a 2,500 ton class trimaran. Model test and theoretical analysis for the trimaran were carried out to compare the seakeeping and maneuvering performance between the trimaran and similar mono-hull ship. The results show that the seakeeping performance, particularly pitch and roll motion, is superior to similar size mono-hull ship because the trimarans length and breadth were increased relatively. Nevertheless, some kinds of roll darnping device is still required to suppress the roll motion and acceleration of trimaran over sea state 5. And there was no serious slamming phenomenon under the wet deck within the test condition. Meanwhile, the course changing and keeping ability and directional stability of the trimaran are excellent though the turning ability of the trimaran a little worse than that of the similar size mono-hull ship.
