dc.description.abstract | A soil-water tank is being constructed to do performance tests of deepsea mining crawler. A bentonite-water mixture is used for simulation of benthic terrain on which the deepsea mining crawler will work. In this study, an experimental study on water absorption of the bentonite-water mixture is performed. Five samples of bentonite-water mixture are made for investigating influences of 3 parameters : water depth, bentonite product, activation of bentonite. Weight and shear strength of each sample are measured. It is confirmed that a non-activated bentonite-water mixture absorbs water less than an activated one. There are no influence of ambient water depth and bentonite product. The results of this study are used as basic information to plan the performance test of deepsea mining crawler in the soil-water tank. | - |
