dc.description.abstract | A computational study has been made to analyze the flows at the rudder position of a ship with twin-skegs in oblique motion. WAVIS program was used to compute the turbulent flows. Multi-block method was employed to represent the complicated stern hull form with twin-skegs. Model tests for 12,000 TEU container ship have been done to measure side forces, yaw moments and roll moments acting on the hull in drift motion at the towing tank of MOERI. Computational results were compared with measured data. The characteristics of flows at the rudder position of a 12,000 TEU container ship with twin-skegs were discussed with computational data. The flow characteristics at the position of rudders were also investigated using the computed flow fields. It is shown that the computed mean flow direction is closely correlated with the flow directions estimated from rudder forces in HPMM tests. This technique is very practical to investigate the flow characteristics at the rudder position from CFD results without propellers and rudders. | - |
