dc.description.abstract | An experimental research facility to investigate the performance characteristics of self-propelled nodule collector for deep-seabed mineral resources is established. Because the nodule collecting operation consists of three different sub-operations, i.e. driving on the seafloor, picking-up the nodules from sediment layer and disposing the nodules through a flexible conduit, it is in principle impossible to investigate the integrated performance of the collector by means of a scaled model test technique. The design requirements and the special features of the experimental research facility, Research Lab for Deep-Sea Mineral Resources Collecting Technology (DMCT_Lab), are introduced. | - |
