dc.description.abstractA velocity-vorticity formulation is developed for some internal flows. And they are computed using Lagrangian vortex particles convected with the local velocity, while their strengths are modified to account for viscous diffusion using the particle strength exchange (PSE) scheme. The particle redistribution is required for maintaining the condition that particle cores overlap. The particles with zero (tolerance) strength are eliminated for computational efficiency and this is one of the merits of the vortex method. In some applications the tolerance has a strong effect on the local flow structures. The developed code is validated on the benchmark problems of two-dimensional driven cavity flows with an impulsively started lid or two lids moving with the same direction or opposite direction.-
