dc.description.abstract | The PMM(Planar Motion Mechanism) is typically used in the captive model test to predict ship maneuvering capability. The PMM test can be grouped in static and dynamic captive model tests. The static test measures the hydrodynamic forces and moments around a ship model with drift and rudder angles. The dynamic test measures the hydrodynamic forces and moments around a ship model during the harmonic sway and yaw motions. CFD method is applied to simulate the PMM model tests in the present study. The WAVIS (Ver. 2.0) code is extended to simulate the static and dynamic captive model tests, which is originally developed for the predictions of resistance and propulsion performance of a ship. The numerical simulation is applied to the KVLCC 1 and 2 model ships, which has the experimental results obtained in MOERI towing tank. The computed hydrodynamic forces and moments are in good agreement with the experimental results. The results shows that CFD is a very promising tool for maneuvering prediction. | - |
