dc.description.abstractA capsizing accident of towing vessel frequently took place after rapid turning in harsh wind and wave condition. When there are few evidences and the crews are missing, it is necessary to estimate time history of the towing vessel from the departure to capsizing depending on the various input parameters by using numerical simulation. In this paper, the dynamics of towing and towed vessels and external force and moment were modeled, and possible input parameters and operational scenarios which might influence on large roll motion were identified. As the result of analyzing the simulated time history of excessive roll motion of the towing vessel, it could take place when the towing vessel lays on the top of wave crest and it is pulled by towed vessel through towing line. The main cause of the accident would be the parameters to influence primarily on such situation, which are wave parameters, course changing scenario, and tension.-
