dc.description.abstract | The probability distribution of the shear strength at seafloor sediment is estimated in order to use the estimated distribution in reliability analysis on mobility of a tracked vehicle for deep-sea manganese nodule mining. The probability distribution of the shear strength at KR5 area is parametrically and nonparametrically estimated. In parametric estimation, the 65 uni-modal candidates distributions are selected and the best distribution is determined by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test(K-S test). In nonparametric estimation, piecewise linear estimation(PLE), kernel density estimation (KDE), and PLE in body and generalized Pareto distribution in tail (PLE/GPD) are compared and the best fit is determined by K-S test. Finally, the best distributions in parametric and nonparametric estimation are compared and best of best distribution is chosen as PLE or PLE/GPD. | - |
