dc.description.abstract | In this paper, the conceptual design of the safe voyage planning system for the vessel operating in the Northern Sea Route is introduced. First of all, the safe voyage planning system of this paper is for the icebreaker, Araon. After confirming the usefulness of the system on Araon, general ship will be considered as the next target. The design of the voyage planning system is composed of three sections. The first section is the data model to save the ship transit model data and the environmental data such as weather, sea state and ice condition. The second section is the communication data type to transfer the route information and the environmental data from shore to vessel. The last is the onboard software itself to display the information to the user. In this paper, the data types used in earth science and meteorology, NetCDF and GRIB are used to meet the requirements of the design. An open-source ECDIS is used for the onboard software.
