dc.description.abstractIn this paper, the prototyping of the safe voyage planning system for the vessel operating in the Arctic Sea Route is introduced. First of all, the safe voyage planning system of this paper is for applying to a Korean icebreaker, Araon. After confirming the usefulness of the system on Araon, a general ship will be considered as the next target. The development of the voyage planning system is composed of two software. The first software is the server software installed on shore. This software receives the ship's current position, destination, ETA from Araon. From this ship's information, the software gathers environmental data such as weather, sea state and ice condition. This software calls the reasoning module for the optimum voyage route with the environmental data and the ship transit model. Finally, the results of the reasoning module and ice condition are sent from the server software to Araon. The second is the onboard software to display the information to the user. An open-source ECDIS is used for the onboard software. In this paper, the data types used in earth science and meteorology, NetCDF and GRIB is used to meet the requirements of the data communication. The usefulness of the prototype may be proved through the sea trial on the next step.-
