dc.description.abstractThis paper describes the feasibility study on numerical towing tank applications for Tokyo 2015 CFD workshop (www. t2015.nmri.go.jp). The applications are Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equation based simulations to predict the performances of resistance and self-propulsion perfor-mances for the Japan Bulk Carrier (JBC) with and without a stern duct, which is one of the benchmark test cases in 2015 CFD workshop. The numerical grids are generated as three geometrically similar grid systems - coarse, medium, fine grids for the verification and validation (V&V) analysis of JBC. The V&V analysis is applied to the total resistance coef-ficients and self-propulsion parameters as an integral variable for bothcases with and without a stern duct. The energy sav-ing effect on the stern duct of JBC is also investigated. The numerical results, such as resistance coefficients, trim/sinkage, self-propulsion parameters, local wake distributions, wave elevation contours and etc., are compared with the experi-mental data and the good agreement is shown in the compari-son.-
