dc.description.abstract | This paper describes the validation test of the KRISO Arctic safe voyage planning (KASVP) system under developing process. The validation test was performed on the Korean ice breaking research vessel, Araon, from 23rd August to 10th September 2016 in East Siberian Sea. First, this paper reviews the environmental information in Northern Sea Route (NSR) for reminding navigational challenges for the safe navigation. Next, the KASVP system and activities during the voyage test are explained. Especially, some experiences on the actual Arctic sea ice monitoring and ice navigation practice through the on board test are described. Ice maps supplied by several institutions during the ice navigation were compared each other. Some improving items for the KASVP system were derived from the on board test, which were the data transfer method via satellite and optimum path planning technique etc. The improved KASVP system is expected to be tested in NSR in summer 2017. | - |
