dc.description.abstract | The rapid reduction in the Arctic sea ice cover has increased opportunities for shipping activi-ty in the Northern Sea Route; thus, ice loads acting on a ship hull are regarded as a major threat to ships operating in ice-covered Arctic waters. This paper describes an investigation of the dynamic characteristics of ice loads when a ship is sailing in ice conditions. A series of model tests were conducted in the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) ice model basin to further understand the effects of ice loads on a ship’s hull. In this study, the interaction between a ship and ice was investigated from the ice loading point of view, and the distributions and magnitudes of the ice loads obtained from the tactile sensors are discussed. | - |
