dc.description.abstractTwo dimensional turbulent flow simulations on the low Mach number - high Reynolds number flow around the NACA 4412 airfoil are carried out as the airfoil approaches a ground. Potential flow analysis using the panel method on the ground effect has been performed as well and comparative study between the viscous and the potential flow simulations is carried out. It has been turned out that angle of attack between 2 and 8 degree is recommended for the airfoil to utilize the benefit of ground effect. For the large angle of attack, the increment of lift due to the ground effect is faded away and negative effect such as de-stabilizing aspect in static longitudinal stability increases. It has been confirmed that the potential flow analysis on the ground effect using the image method shows in some degree consistent to the viscous calculations for small and moderate angle of attack.-
