- Abstract
- Ice field tests of Korean icebreaking research vessel Araon in Arctic Ocean in July-August 2010 were conducted. In this period, sea ice thickness, temperature of ice, weight, density, salinity and crystal structures were measured and engine power and ship speed were also measured in icebreaking performance test. Especially sea ice thickness was measured by ice drilling and snow depth and freeboard were measured by ice thickness gauge at intervals of 10m or 20m in sea ice test polygon. Compressive strength of ice was measured by universal test machine and flexural strength of ice was calculated by salinity, temperature and density. In this paper, results of four ice field test were reviewed. And then, the correlation between engine power and ship speed for time history was analyzed systematically.
