dc.description.abstract | The Marshall Islands has a plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and is in the process of transitioning its energy infrastructure from fossil fuels to renewable sources. One of the projects aimed at achieving this is the Marshall Islands OTEC ODA Project, which focuses on marine fisheries. This project involves using the temperature difference in seawater to generate power, provide cooling, desalinate water, and support hydroponic systems. The project assessed the energy usage in the target area and calculated the annual carbon emissions. It was estimated that the annual carbon emissions from the project's Arrak campus and neighboring villages were 272 tCO2/year. In comparison, the emissions from the project's 50 kWG OTEC and 150 RT cooling for a portion of the project area were estimated to be 171.4 tCO2/year. The project recommended reducing the surplus emissions by expanding seawater cooling or utilizing other renewable energy sources in the future. Based on these findings, the entire city of Majuro, the capital of the Marshall Islands, was considered for replacing diesel power supply with OTEC and discharged seawater cooling to help achieve the carbon-neutral?2050?plan. | - |
