Abstract
The calculation of the water level and center of gravity of floodwater in a compartment of a ship is necessary for the flooding simulation. However the analytic formula for the volume and its center of gravity is known only for the very confined geometries. The analytic equation and method are proposed for the calculation of water level and center of gravity of floodwater in an arbitrary shaped compartment for a given amount of floodwater. Only the convex shape is treated in this paper for 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional geometries. And the hexahedron is selected to explain the indexing of vertices, edges, and surfaces for 3-dimensional geometry. The method proposed in this paper utilizes an analytic approach, so the computing time will be relatively short, and is adequate for the flooding simulation of a ship.
