Abstract
In this study, the orifice equation which is used for the calculation of the flow through an orifice in flooding simulation of a damaged ship was investigated. Existing orifice equation is for the steady state, and is for a small area of orifice and a large pressure difference. The problem of it arises from the fact that it can produce the oscillation of air pressure because of the square root function that the hydraulic orifice equation has. In this study, the dynamic orifice equation was derived from the integral version of Euler equation. This newly derived equation has a property in which the flow velocity changes smoothly because the inertia of the flow mass has been considered. The sample calculation verifies the effectiveness of the dynamic orifice equation.ifice and a large pressure difference.
