- Abstract
- In this study, the propeller noise source level of a naval vessel was predicted using onboard hydrophones through model-scaled noise measurements. A scaled model ship and a set of propellers were installed in a cavitation tunnel, with onboard sensors at the hull above the portside propeller. A conventional beamforming method in the frequency domain was used to calculate the source level. For comparison, the source level was measured using a hydrophone in the tunnel using the International Towing Tank Conference method. The propeller cavitation characteristics and noise of the naval vessel at the model scale were analyzed, and the measured and predicted source levels were compared. Finally, a sensitivity analysis was conducted to verify its feasibility in ship onboard Under-water Radiated Noise monitoring.
