Abstract
IMO adopted ground breaking mandatory technical and operational energy efficiency measures which will reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emission from ships. These measures were included in Annex VI and entered into force on 1 January 2013. Optimal routing system using the weather information is a comprehensive system to optimize the service speed and minimize the greenhouse gas emissions from ships. This paper reviews substances of various technologies for the optimal routing such as optimum trim routing, just-in-time routing and weather routing. And this paper reviews optimal routing system consisted with vessel information, weather information, route prediction service and real time decision support advice. The reduction of greenhouse gas emission according to the optimal routing system could be expected up to 10%..
