- Abstract
- This paper provides an overview of a recent study to investigate the nonlinear wave loads acting on large container carriers using segmented model tests and numerical analysis. Under the Wave Induced Loads on Ships (WILS) JIP, extensive model tests were undertaken to measure the nonlinear wave-induced extreme and springing loads on segmented model. In this paper, most critical test cases are selected and compared with numerical results from the nonlinear seakeeping analysis. From this comparative study, the numerical analyses are successfully validated using segmented model tests for wave-induced extreme and springing loads. ? 2010 by The International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).
