This paper presents an analytical method for calculating the magnetic field and detent force in the permanent magnet linear synchronous machines (PMLSMs) considering the slotting and end effects. The detent force is analyzed according to suggested strategy; therefore, analytical solutions for magnetic fields generated by permanent magnets (PMs) are derived based on the analytical calculation in terms of a two-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system. The analytical solution of each subdomain (PM, air-gap, slot, slot opening, and end region) is derived, and the field solution is obtained by applying the boundary between the subdomains. The detent force is determined based on the field solutions. The validity of the proposed method and the results obtained are verified with finite element analysis and experimental results. ? 2016 IEEE.-
