In this study, a series of model tests was carried out to study the characteristics of float-over installation for a semi-submersible platform. Three experimental models, which include a DTV (Deck Transportation Vessel), topsides and a semi-submersible, were considered. In addition to that, there are various interface items such as LMUs (Leg Mating Units), Jack system, fenders, tethers and moorings to be taken into account. The model tests were performed at Ocean Engineering Basin of KRISO. In the model test, two mating stages of 0% and 80% load transfers were considered under irregular wave conditions of three different wave headings. The mating performances are evaluated in terms of motion responses of the DTV as well as reaction forces acting on LMUs and jack system. The experimental data are directly compared with time-domain numerical simulation results. It can be seen that the characteristics of the impact forces are closely related to the motion responses of the DTV and the semi-submersible platform. Discussions were made on the effects of wave headings, load transfers on the impact forces of LMUs and Jack system. ? 2019 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).-
