Abstract
In order for an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) based application to run, a session among the user equipment (UE) has to be established first The session setup time has to be as small as possible in order to enhance user experience. In a multiparty conference, the setup time takes much longer than in point-to-point applications because of the many UEs that have to be invited. In this paper, we introduce a prioritized mass invitation scheme where a) UEs are invited in an ordered manner according to their type and b) a set of priority rules is used to schedule the processing of the SIP messages that queue up at the various functional entities. We show by simulation that the mean session setup time is considerably shorter than the case where UEs are invited in a random order and no scheduling priorities are used in the functional entities.multiparty conference, the setup time takes much longer than in point-to-point applications because of the many UEs that have to be invited.
