dc.description.abstract | Ships hull bio-fouling has played a critical role in the incursion of invasive aquatic species in the world, disturbing native ecosystems and negatively affecting socio-economic activities for the human wellbeing. In order to minimize the transfer of the invasive aquatic species, International Maritime Organization (IMO) is preparing a convention on the control and management of ship’s bio-fouling. We investigated IMO activities and reviewed the existing technologies related to ship’s bio-fouling. Based on the investigation results, we predicted the potential contents of the IMO convention on the control and management of ship’s bio-fouling and suggested various technologies to effectively comply with the requirements of the convention. The results of this study may provide useful information on developing new technologies for reduction and management of ships hull bio-fouling, which help us lead the establishment of the convention and contribute to the creation of new industrial market worth KRW 10 trillion a year. transfer of the invasive aquatic species, International Maritime Organization (IMO) is preparing a convention on the control and management of ship’s bio-fouling.
