dc.description.abstractDue to the increase in international trade and overseas transport, and faster, larger transport, the risk of marine accidents is also steadily increasing. Even though the rules and regulations are stricter, the accidents are becoming greater in scale and severity of consequences. Accordingly a systematic and objective means to ensure the safety of marine systems including ships is required. This paper introduces some approaches to the safety of marine systems and introduces the risk-based methodologies as means of safety assessment in ship design process.-
