dc.description.abstractThis paper investigates the response characteristics of very large floating structures (VLFS) considering fluid-structure interaction. Since the floating body considered in this paper is a very large plate structure, elastic model considering flexibility is valid instead of rigid body model in numerical analysis. The effect of hydrostatic stiffness, added mass and hydroradiation damping due to fluid flow is also considered in the analysis. Hydroelastic responses are calculated by direct method. Higher-order boundary element method (HOBEM) is employed in the analysis of fluid flow and the plate structure is analyzed by finite element method (FEM) using Mindlin plate elements. The influence of stiffness distribution on responses is also investigated by analyzing VLFS with varying stiffness distribution.-
