dc.description.abstract | A numerical method is developed as a possible mechanism for freak wave formation in three dimensional numerical wave tank. The mathematical formulation with fully nonlinear free surface condition is made in the scope of potential theory. As a numerical method, finite element method based on variational principle is adopted. To simulate the highly nonlinear free surface motion such as freak wave, the method of wave focusing is used. Comparisons between numerical results and the previous experiment data show a good agreement. | - |
