dc.description.abstractThis paper is focused on developing a software that predicts the temperature and Infrared Emission from objects considering the solar radiation through the atmosphere. The surface temperature is essential for obtaining the Infrared scene from the object. The thermal modeling including conduction, convection and solar radiation heat transfer is necessary for obtaining the transient surface temperature profiles over the object. This study considers the combined mode heat transfer on a very large imaginary reference sphere on which the one-dimensional conduction through the thickness is considered. The results obtained from the reference sphere can then be used to obtain transient temperature profiles of the object with more complicated shapes by simply comparing the directions of the surface elements on the unit sphere and the actual object. Predictions of the transient surface temperature and the infrared emission from a war ship by using the software developed here show fairly successful result by well representing the typical temperature trends expected for January and July in mid latitude. For the analyses, the war ship is assumed to be a pure iron structure of 0.25m in thickness.-
