dc.description.abstractThis paper describes a design methodology of electrical and communication systems for a 6000m class deep-sea ROV, HEMIRE and HENUVY. Since their power is supplied from a mother ship through 8,500 m tether cable, and they are controlled using fiber optic communication system, electrical and communication systems of the ROV are tightly coupled with other sub-systems as a backbone which could be a basic but important reason of difficultly in designing a deep-sea ROV. For optimizing system performance under various constraints and weightings, all possibilities in design should be considered at the first design stage, and then their changes also should be tracked to keep a balance of the whole system. This paper shows design results of HEMIRE and HENUVY along with a design guideline which could be applied to general deep-sea exploration and development systems. HEMIRE and HENUVY are born after five year work of on-going project, \\'The development of an advanced deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV)\\' sponsored by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF), and ready to sea-trials.-
