dc.description.abstract | Based on Computerized Planar Motion Carriage (CPMC) in MOERI, free-running model tests on POD Icebreaker Ship (PIS) are carried out. Lpp, breadth and draft of PIS are 95m, 19m and 7.5m respectively. Scale ratio is 18.667 and PIS has twin PODs. The standard maneuvering model tests such as turning test and zig-zag test are originally planned in design speed, 12.0 knots, but due to length limit of square tank in MOERI, 10°/5° zig-zag test is carried out in replace of 10°/10° zig-zag test. Therefore, maneuvering characteristics according to difference of speed are firstly studied through 10°/10° zig-zag test in low speed, 8.4 knots and then, those in 10°/10° zig-zag test in design speed, 12.0 knots can be estimated through numerical simulations. Difference of zig-zag 1st overshoot in between model test and numerical simulation is about 1.7 deg and it is reasonable. It is found that PIS satisfies all the IMO maneuvering standard conditions based on the results of model tests and numerical simulations. | - |
