dc.description.abstract | The ship motion in time domain is solved using three-dimensional Finite Element Method(FEM). Firstly, linear diffraction and radiation problems are considered and then second-order diffraction problem is also investigated. Laplace's equation and boundary conditions are formulated in weak sense and solved by classical finite element method. Artificial damping zone is used as radiation condition. Banded LU column solver is used to solve matrix equations efficiently. Comercial mesh code, ICEM CFD, is used to generate good-quality Hexahedral mesh. Computational results are compared with those of boundary element method with wave green function or Semi-analytic solutions. Good agreements are obtained both for first and second order problems. | - |
