dc.description.abstract | Many new technologies from different area are employed in enhancing the safety of ships. This paper proposes using recent ubiquitous technology in order to enhance ship safety. Ubiquitous technology can also provide valuable addition to the ship’s service as well as high quality of life to crews and passengers. Here, three possible application of ubiquitous technology is introduced; Planned Maintenance System which monitors equipment failures and abnormal operation in order to provide appropriate maintenance strategy such that necessary components are replaced before they cause failures in the system, Fire Prevention System which monitors fire hazard zones and notifies crew if there is high possibility of fire, and Crew and Passenger Tracking System which can inform when crews or passengers are in hazardous environment. There are many more possible applications of ubiquitous technology which can provide safer and more comfortable environment to crews and passengers. | - |
