dc.description.abstract | The International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships Ballast Water & Sediments was adopted by consensus at a diplomatic conference of IMO at 2004. Following to the Convention, fourteen guidelines were developed by IMO except the guideline for ballast water sampling.The technologies on ballast water treatment, biological efficacy test and risk analysis of ballast water were conducted for many years in Korea. In Korea, KORDI (Korea Ocean Research & Development Institution) started the research on Ballast Water Management at an earlier state as a government research institute. KORDI has been developing various fundamental technologies for national strategy such as biological survey, type approval procedure and technical information for formulation of the regulation through a project of Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries. From this year, KORDI also started to develop the risk assessment technology of Ballast Water as a new government project. There has been many developments for ballast water treatment system through commercial project by several companies. | - |
