dc.description.abstract | Numerical comparisons are made on the hydroelastic response of an elastic vertical cylinder and wave load due to a nonlinear wave. To generate the nonlinear wave, the frequency focusing method is utilized in a numerical wave tank. Finite element method is applied in the scope of potential theory with fully nonlinear free surface conditions in time domain. The elastic vertical cylinder is modeled by a simple beam and the hydroelastic response of the cylinder is analyzed by the mode superposition method. The numerical comparisons are made between the coupled analysis, the decoupled analysis and the quasi-static approach. The characteristics of structural response, dy-namic loading on the elastic vertical cylinder by the nonlinear wave as well as interaction effect between fluid motion and structural re-sponse are investigated through the three different approaches. | - |
