dc.description.abstract | Ship fire accident may lead to severe consequences, since it can destroy main ship functions and lead to total loss of ship. Therefore, IMO requires performance based fire safety analysis with risk assessment rather than conformance to conventional prescriptive regulations. However, fire experiments is very expansive and in many cases impossible to carry out. When experiments and model test are impossible or not practical, fire simulation can be an alternative for fire safety analysis. This paper proposes use of fire simulation software in fire safety analysis of cruise vessels. First, commercial and public fire simulation software widely used in building fire research is reviewed with an example of their application to ship engine room fire. Then their applicability to cruise vessels are investigated. Lastly, how fire simulation software can be used in fire safety analysis of cruise vessels are proposed. | - |
