In recent years, the Ocean Development System Laboratory of KORDI are performing researches on the quality evaluation of deep seawater in East Sea of Korea with the purpose to develop an alternative water resource. In this study, spatio-temporal hydrochemical variations of seawater are examined. Depth-specific seawater samples from 20 sites were collected in 2007-2008 and were measured for physico-chemical parameters (temp., salinity, pH, D.O., Chl-a), nutrients (NO2-N, NO3-N, NH4-N, PO4-P, SiO2), and trace metals (Fe, Ni, Co, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb). The data show that the occurrence of deep seawater mass for potential use is characterized by abrupt changes of temperature and salinity around the depths of 200 m. The water mass is seasonally highly stable with low temperatures and is uninfluenced by surface seawater. Among the examined parameters, biogeochemically important constituents such as NO3-N, PO4-P and SiO2 and some trace metals such as Cd, Co, Cu and Pb are important characteristic constituents in the deep seawater mass.-
