dc.description.abstract | Ships carrying fuel, combustible and explosive cargos are exposed to danger of fire at all times. Moreover, it is difficult to expect fire fighting from inland when a fire occurs at sea, therefore ship fire causes heavy losses of human lives and properties. Especially in passenger ships, all passengers and crews must be evacuated to safe area before a fire is developed into hazard to human. Therefore the MSC(Maritime Safety Committee) of IMO (International Maritime Organization) approved MSC/Circ.1238 on guidelines for evacuation analysis of new and existing passenger ships, including ro-ro passenger ships to prevent losses of lives in maritime accidents. In this paper, the assessment of performance-based fire safety is proposed to reduce losses of human lives using the concept of ASET and RSET that can be described by mathematic description, 'ASET>RSET'. RSET is calculated by annex 1 of MSC/Circ.1238 and ASET is predicted by fire simulation using FDS(Fire Dynamics Simulator). | - |
