System Design and Development of the 6000m Class Deep-sea ROV Hemire

Abstract

This paper presents the design and development of a 6,000 meter depth-rated remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for oceanographic research. The ROV consists of two vehicles: a main platform ‘Hemire’ and a depressor ‘Henuvy.’ This paper describes the objectives, functional requirements, specifications of the vehicles, and presents the design and development of the mechanical and electric systems. This paper also introduces the surface control unit, navigation and control system of Hemire and Henuvy.
